My way of working
Psychotherapy consists of an alliance between client and therapist, a way of working together that will help you to understand yourself better and meet your personal goals.
Each client comes for his or her own reasons. You may be looking for personal growth and development. You may have suffered a recent loss or illness. You may be struggling with an addiction or eating disorder. You may have suffered a recent or past trauma that you want to resolve. You may be uncertain how you relate in terms of your sexuality or gender identity.
In helping you with these concerns, my approach is informed primarily by psychodynamic theory but although I may make suggestions and guide the process, the way we work will depend on what makes sense to both of us, the length of treatment and the goals you have set yourself.
Initial consultation
When you first come to see me, we will talk about what has brought you here, about your life to date, your family history and what your goals and expectations are. I believe there is value in different lengths of treatment and will discuss with you what will help you best.
I do both individual and couple work and may suggest different formats at different times which we can discuss so that you make the right choice for yourself. Throughout our work, I will focus on building trust through a feeling of safety and confidence.
