My approach
My approach is based on the belief that we are pattern-making creatures who need to find meaning to the patterns that we can sense in both our minds and our bodies. As a psychodynamic psychotherapist, I believe that unhelpful patterns can recur in our lives and often have their roots in early experiences. I will work to help you identify and then move towards changing those patterns.
Sometimes our bodies remember what our minds have forgotten. So I will work with you to look at all the signs – conscious, unconscious and somatic – that tell us how you are feeling.
You may feel anxious about starting therapy. This is natural and part of the feeling that you do not have mastery over the way you want to move forward. But the patterns of your past do not need to determine your future if you are committed to making changes. My task as a therapist is to pay careful attention to your life story and work with you to effect personal growth and development.

Who I am
As a psychotherapist and group analyst, I have worked in the voluntary sector, in the NHS and with training organizations.
Earlier in my professional life I worked at a senior level in central government, specializing in policy analysis and implementation. This gave me an abiding fascination with what brings about change and the barriers that we create in its way. Also a great respect for what a group of people can accomplish when they work constructively together.
I put value on my continuing professional development. I attend workshops and conferences, exploring different theoretical approaches and social changes with therapists across Europe and the United States.
I present on Gender and Sexuality to students at the Institute of Group Analysis. I founded a discussion group on Gender and Sexuality for practitioners which is establishing a programme of workshops and articles. I have presented for several years at the American Group Psychotherapy Association’s annual conference and co-presented a webinar in their e-learning program.
